Berube’s From The Sky

Mike Bradford definitely does not suffer from vertigo – take a look at his picture from the tower crane at Berube’s.

As a driver who’s covered almost 2 million miles using nothing but the sun, moon and stars to navigate in Australia, having the latest mobile computing platform from Qualcomm is quite a revelation. The MCP200 (MCP stands for mobile computing platform) transforms the cab into a mobile operations center and it’s definitely a system no driver should be without in America.

The MCP200 offers multi-mode communications (terrestrial and Wi-Fi) as its standard with satellite as an option, automated satellite GPS vehicle positioning, electronic log books, two-way information delivery for dispatch, weather & traffic information, navigation, color  touch screen display, vehicle performance monitoring, trailer monitoring, tamper-detection alerts, interactive video training, in-cab document scanning for proof of delivery etc & in-cab internet access.

No more getting lost for The Grumpy Pete (like he did recently on the Cross Island Parkway on Long Island)!

It’s hard to say how many trucks turned up for the 8th Annual Berube’s Customer Appreciation Day, and when asked how many big rigs there were, Dick  Berube said, “The parking lot is full!”……………and that’s all the mattered. This event is in the “best ever” category for the Berube Family and all of their loyal customers. The band was amazing this year, the food was again spectacular and so was the effort put into shining and polishing the rigs. Well done everyone and a special thanks to the TGP crew – Justin, Ryan, Ethan & Harry for the hard work in getting the big black Pete into shape.

What an amazing event and many thanks to Richie Acosta for putting on a great truck show! Rain threatened early in the day but it cleared off in time for the crowd of trucking enthusiasts to arrive. In addition to the great trucks there were some true industry characters who made the day all worthwhile. Jan & Jim McCarter from www.thekeystruckers.com (aka Bobby Boofay), Mike from Boston Bark (aka The Boston Trucker), and Robbie Coviello (as himself) from MA. Well done guys and you all make this industry the great industry that it is. Can’t wait for next year.

Make-A-Wish Foundation

The Grumpy Pete has become a “wish granter” for the the Make-A-Wish Foundation in Massachusetts and Rhode Island. For privacy reasons we can’t talk about individual stories but sufficed to say if sick kids have a wish to ride in a big rig or need a ride to the airport in a big black limo (for their “Disneyland Wish”), then TGP is the perfect ride. For one young boy in Boston’s metro-west who is confined to a wheelchair and has very limited vision and hearing, a ride in the big black Peterbilt with the windows down, music blaring (he can feel vibrations) and wind in his face was an experience of a lifetime.

The Grumpy Pete got 1st place in the Peterbilt “Sleeper Cab” Division at the 2011 Pride & Glory Truck Show. Several hundred people enjoyed a gorgeous sunny summer Connecticut day and were treated to a wide range of working LargeCars.

Special thanks to Todd and Beth Roccapriore from Clean Slate Environmental for donating the trophies for this years winners, and to Freddie for putting on another superb event.

Donna German and her cast of thousands put on another amazing fundraising eventfor the Miriam Elementary School in Acton MA. They reached their $50,000 target with some very creative auction items including a ride in The Grumpy Pete. The successful bidders shelled out $400 for the prize and for their efforts they get to ride in one of the coolest big rigs in Boston.

Big Rig For Hire

The Grumpy Pete (TGP) is a cool ride for those wanting to experience the thrill of riding in a big rig. TGP is a classic American Peterbilt and can be hired for any occasion including weddings, birthday parties, fundraisers, movies and TV advertisements.

The last fundraiser of the year before winter begins was a big success. A typical Fall day greeted families, lots of sunshine and wind gusts kept everyone on the move. Much needed funds were raised – a big thanks to all of the exhibitors and volunteers or their tireless efforts. Until Spring….
